The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has introduced travel insurance policy for Indian citizens and getting a stupendous response. You can get this travel insurance policy on the premium of 98 Paise only. There are few things regarding this policy that you must know before taking this policy. Many of us are thinking that the IRCTC Travel Insurance scheme is provided by The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation and when something misshaping will happen with you while traveling then you can claim for the Travel Insurance Cover. This is not true, actually, IRCTC is only playing a role of a bridge between you and insurance companies. Actually, it is an insurance company which will provide insurance cover when you will meet with an accident during travel.

The IRCTC has tied up with three Insurance Companies i.e ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited, Shriram General Insurance Company and Royal Sundaram General Insurance Co. Limited that will provide you travel insurance cover. Initially, it was introduced on a trial basis, in which passengers has to give a premium of just Re 1 while booking all type of e-ticket from the IRCTC website. This insurance scheme is offering compensation of up to Rs 10 lakh to travelers and their families in the event of death, Rs 7.5 lakh for permanent total disability and up to Rs 2 lakh for permanent partial disability. The traveler can claim for insurance cover immediately after the incident but not later than four months after the event. The insurance company through which IRCTC is connected will send the cheque of the cover amount within 15 days of the receipt of a document.


Procedure For Travel Insurance Claim

The first step that passenger should do after opting the Travel Insurance is to update the nomination details. They can update these details online the websites of Insurance Company.

Here we mentioned procedure through which passenger can claim for IRCTC travel insurance:

  1. First of all, the person who opted insurance or his/ her nominee must visit the nearby Insurance Company branch
  2. Then give complete information about the incident and if you are a nominee then give proof of your connection with policy holder.
  3. Then fill the Travel Insurance Claim Application Form and attached required documents along with it.

  • Required Documents for IRCTC Travel Insurance Claims:
  • Proof of Insurance Policy
  • Carefully Filled Personal Accident Claim Form along with nominee sign
  • Identity proof of nominee
  • NEFT mandate details

Document Required In a case of Death Claim:

  • Report of the Railway Authority that confirms the accident of the train or another incident
  • Report of the Railway Authority in which the passengers declared dead.

Document Required In case of Of Permanent total disability

  • Report of the Railway Authority in which clearly mentioned about the accident of the train
  • Report of government doctor confirming the permanent total disability.
  • All Medical bills, X-Ray reports and Photograph before & after disability
  • Doctor’s prescription.
  • Attested copy of FIR.

Document Required In case of Permanent Partial disability

  • Confirming report of the Railway Authority about the accident of the train
  • Discharge summary
  • Hospital Bills, medical bills, X-Ray reports
  • Doctor’s prescription
  • Photographs of injury

When will you get the Insurance Amount?

You will get insurance amount within a 15 days after completing all the formalities. Before filing insurance claim form must read the form carefully and fill correct information. In case you filled wrong information in form then your form will be disqualified. In that case, if have to start the whole process from the initial level. Once you submitted all the documents with ID proof asked by the Travel Insurance Company then your insurance cover amount will be paid to you within 15 days.
