Thanjavur or also known as Tanjore is a very beautiful city full of various tourist attractions it is situated in south India in the Tamilnadu State. If you are planning to visit this place via flight then let me warn you that this place has now Airport of its own. the nearest Airport is a domestic airport which is located in Tiruchirappalli, Tamilnadu which is approximately 50km away from the Thanjavur. There is also another airport at Puducherry which is approximately 150km away from the Thanjavur. Both of them are domestic airports, so if you are visiting from a foreign country then you will need to switch out your flights. I would recommend you to use the Tiruchirappalli airport as it is the nearest airport to the city.

Once you have landed there you can use other public transportation services like buses or trains or you can just rent a car or hire some cab company to drop you off to the Thanjavur. the approximate journey time would depend upon the mode you choose, if you chose to drive there or use a bus it would take you around 2 hours or by train, you can just reach the main station within just one hour.

If you are not interested in flights then you can simply take some express trains which will directly halt at Thanjavur. Thanjavur is well connected to the other cities via the railway network. the distance between Chennai to Thanjavur is almost of 400km. So the driving would take you around 6 hours to reach you there. This is also a very famous tourist spot which is located just near the Brahadeshwara Temple. It is just approximately 2km away from the temple. This is a majestic fort which was built around 1500 A.D. mainly by Nayaks and then partly by Marathas. In this fort, you will find many interesting things like Tanjore Palace, Sangeetha Mahal, Library and many art galleries that include unique sculptures and paintings. The famous Shiv Ganga garden is also a part of this Fort.

Another one of the Chola Temple which is also located in the Thanjavur. It’s also one of the best examples of the Dravidian Architecture. It stands next to the beautiful Brahadeshwara Temple. This temple is re known for having one of the biggest Shiv Lingam in South India.

This is one of the most ancient museums in town. This place holds many of the ancient items such as Sculptures, Paintings images and other Ancient artifacts. This temple was also built by the Chola’s in the 12th Century.

Well, I think the duration between October to March. Because during these periods the climate is very calm. If you try to visit during the months of April to June you will be facing a lot of Heat and since there are a lot of temples which you are going to be visiting they will ask you to remove your footwear, So it will be hard to be walking on the temple rocks while it’s hot.

Also during the months of June to September, the monsoon season is going on, So if you don’t want to mess up your travel plans just because of some rain then it is really advisable that you should visit this temple during the period of October To March. In these months the heat is not that heavy,  and also there are very low chances of rain so you will be able to easily enjoy your trip
