THRISSUR India – The Holy City of Colorful Festival

Thrissur Pooram is one of the largest city in the Kerala, to be precise it is in the fourth position. Previously it was also known as the Thiru Seva Pur or Trichur. It is also the main headquarters of the Thrissur district. The whole city is built around a huge area called Thekkinkadu Maidan which approximately occupies 65 acres of area. And in this area, there is also a temple called Vadakkumnathan temple, It also acts as a venue for the city’s most important festival called as Thrissur Pooram. Thrissur once used to be the capital of the kingdom of Cochin. But now it is located 300 Km northwest towards the actual state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

Thrissur is the cultural capital of the state Kerala. You must visit this place to experience the culture of Kerala to its fullest. This city is completely rich in terms of history, religion and spiritual learnings. This city includes some of the famous academies for the study of religion as well as its culture including the famous Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy, Kerala Lalithakala Akademi and Kerala Sahitya Academy. This is the most famous waterfall in the state of Kerala. Athirappalli and Vazhachal both are situated in the Athirappalli Thaluk in the Thrissur district. You will be able to view the largest waterfall in Kerala at the start of Sholayar ranges which is known as the main Athirapally fall. From here you will be able to visit many of the other waterfalls which are within short distance Vazhachal waterfall, Charpa Falls are to name a few. This Athirapally fall is also known as the Niagra Falls of India. it is one of the places to visit near Thrissur.

Among all the Bhagvathy temples in Kerala, this is one of the largest temples. In this temple, the main deity is Devi Vaishnavi which is an incarnation of Goddess Durga. This is also one of the temples participating in the Thrissur Pooram Festival

This beautiful temple is situated on the bank of river Theevara. It is also one of the best places which you should visit in the Thrissur district. This tower is exactly situated in the Thrissur city of the Thrissur District. It was inaugurated in the year of 2007, The speciality of this tower is that it is the tallest church tower in India as well as in Asia. As you have probably guessed it by now it is also the tallest structure in the Kerala. There is a large red cross at the top of the tower which indicates the presence of the roman catholic church in the Thrissur. This place was also formerly known as the Trichur Zoo. it was opened around the year of 1885 in the main Thrissur City and it is now home to wide variety of birds, animals and reptiles. The museum in this zoo also shows you the socio-cultural heritage of the region. If you want to visit this zoo make sure you visit it between the timings of 10 am to 5:30 Pm and keep in mind that the zoo is not open on the Mondays. I would recommend you to visit this city during the winters which are from October to march, But if you are ready to make a bit of a sacrifice and want to watch the beautiful Thrissur Pooram festival then you can visit the place in months of April or May But keep in mind that the Thrissur weather is really hot this time of year so make sure you take necessary precautions.
