Thrissur Pooram is one of the largest city in the Kerala, to be precise it is in the fourth position. Previously it was also known as the Thiru Seva Pur or Trichur. It is also the main headquarters of the Thrissur district. The whole city is built around a huge area called Thekkinkadu Maidan which approximately occupies 65 acres of area. Thrissur once used to be the capital of the kingdom of Cochin. But now it is located 300 Km northwest towards the actual state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

This place was also formerly known as the Trichur Zoo. it was opened around the year of 1885 in the main Thrissur City and it is now home to wide variety of birds, animals and reptiles. The museum in this zoo also shows you the socio-cultural heritage of the region. If you want to visit this zoo make sure you visit it between the timings of 10 am to 5:30 Pm and keep in mind that the zoo is not open on the Mondays.
